We live in a violent world which only gets worse as time goes on.
Last century over 160,000,000 people were killed in wars and other major conflicts. This century has already seen many uprisings. The worst of these is the Syrian civil war. Well over 100,000 people have already been killed, let alone the multitudes who have lost limbs or suffered other terrible injuries. Millions more have fled to neighbouring countries as refugees.
Governments and the UN are clearly unable to bring peace to the earth. In fact since its inception, the UN has not prevented one single major conflict from occurring.
The Bible states World peace will only be possible when Jesus Christ returns to rule as King.
Revelation 11:15:
The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ,
and he will reign forever and ever.
Isaiah 2:4:
He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people. They shall beat their
swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up
sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
The Isaiah quote is on the wall of the United Nations building in New York. They know it is what people want. But words mean nothing unless there is the power to cause those things to happen. Only Jesus Christ has the power to bring lasting peace.
